wilsons promontory cruise

The marine National Park surrounding Wilsons Promontory is truly a spectacle. Largely untouched by humankind the spectacular granite coastline plunges into the pristine waters of the Pacific Ocean at the southern end of The Prom with dramatic effect.

Surrounding the coastline are a number of granite islands that are home to seal colonies, sea birds and sometimes penguins while they take a break from the daily grind of hunting for fish. The most spectacular of these islands is Skull Rock, a giant bulbous creation bearing striking similarities to human skulls on it’s weathered face. A massive cave created by the elements over thousands of years of wind erosion and rain can be seen on the western side of Skull Rock and statistics show that more people have walked on the moon than have set foot on this awe inspiring granite island.

During the months from May through to the end of November it is common to see migrating whales here at the Prom. Southern Right Whales and Humpbacks are the most common with Orca’s frequently making an appearance. Dolphins are a regular feature and often swim playfully around the boats.

Wilsons Promontory Cruises. operated by Pennicott Wilderness Journeys, take daily tours straight from the beach at Tidal River in their world first design amphibious craft. These 2.5 hour cruises are an experience that no nature lover should miss. Launching from the beach into the turquoise water of Norman Bay, these amazing boats take you to the southern most tip of mainland Australia passing by large seal colonies and out to the spectacular Skull Rock. Tasmania’s Rodondo Island can be seen clearly from here.

You can incorporate the 11 am cruise in to your day tour experience on either our Walks & Wildlife tour or the Wilsons Prom Shuttle. It is always better to pre-book your cruise to avoid missing out and this can be done either online when booking your tour with us or by giving us a call.
